SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION POLICY Croatia My Love IP LLC · www.myfamilylearnscroatian.com · Version 1.0 · Effective Date: September 3, 2026 This policy is public. It is written for parents, for tutors and for anyone who wants to understand how we protect children on this platform. It forms part of our Terms of Service and of our Tutor Services Agreement.
1. Why This Policy Exists
Croatia My Love connects families with independent Croatian tutors for live video lessons. Many of our learners are children. Most of our tutors are native speakers living outside the United States, often in Croatia. That combination, adults teaching children over video across borders, carries real risk. This policy sets out honestly what we do about it, what we do not do, and why. We would rather you read something candid and decide for yourself than something reassuring that does not survive contact with the facts.
2. Our Approach in One Paragraph
3. The Controls
3.1 A supervising adult is present for every lesson
Where the learner is under 18, a parent or other responsible adult of 18 or over must be present in the room for the whole lesson. Present, not nearby. Able to see and hear what is happening. This applies to every lesson, every time, including with a tutor the family has used many times before. It applies to a 17-year-old as much as to an 11-year-old. Tutors are required to confirm at the start of each lesson that an adult is there, to stop teaching if the adult leaves, and to end the lesson if the adult does not return. A tutor who ends a lesson because no adult was present is paid in full. We pay for that so that following the rule never costs a tutor money, and so no tutor ever has a financial reason to carry on regardless.
3.2 Lessons happen only in our video room
Every lesson is held in a private room we create for that individual booking and delete afterwards. Rooms expire automatically and remove everyone when they do. Text chat is disabled. A maximum of four people can join. The tutor must join before anyone else can enter. This means a child never sits waiting alone in a room with whoever else happens to hold a link. Moving a lesson to any other platform, for any reason including a technical failure of ours, is a serious breach of the Tutor Services Agreement. If our room fails, the lesson is rescheduled.
3.3 Tutors and families never exchange contact details
Tutors must never give a family their phone number, personal email, home address or social media accounts, and must never ask for or accept a family's. Tutors must never connect with a learner on social media, before, during or after their time on the platform. Booking outside the platform is a breach for both sides. It removes every protection described in this policy at once, which is the reason we take it seriously rather than treating it as a commercial matter.
3.4 No recording, and no way to record
Lessons are not recorded. This is not a setting left switched off. Our rooms are created without recording permission enabled at all, which means no participant can start a recording, including the tutor, including the family, and including us. No recording of any lesson exists anywhere. Families are also prohibited from recording, photographing or screenshotting a lesson. If we ever introduce recording, we will publish a revised policy explaining exactly what would be recorded, who could see it and for how long it would be kept, and we would ask every family for fresh consent first. It will not happen quietly.
3.5 Conduct rules for tutors
Every tutor agrees to rules that include: teaching from an appropriate private setting, dressing as they would to teach in a school, never being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, keeping conversation on the subject and appropriate to the learner's age, never discussing their personal life, never making a remark of a sexual nature, never commenting on a learner's appearance or body, never giving or accepting gifts, never photographing or filming a learner, and never asking a learner to keep anything secret from their parent. That last one matters more than its position in the list suggests. Asking a child to keep a secret from a parent is one of the most consistent early indicators of grooming, which is why it is a standalone rule and why breaching it results in immediate suspension regardless of the explanation offered.
4. What We Do Not Do, and Why
We think you are entitled to know the limits of our approach.
4.1 We do not run criminal record checks
Most of our tutors live outside the United States. Criminal record checking is inconsistent across countries, slow, sometimes unavailable to a private company at all, and in some places covers only convictions within that one country. A check we could run on a tutor in one country and not on a tutor in another would produce an uneven standard and, worse, a false sense of assurance for families about the tutors who happened to be checkable. We would rather tell you plainly that we do not screen, and build the platform so that screening is not the only thing standing between a tutor and a child, than run a partial check and let it do reassurance work it cannot support. What this means for you as a parent: do not treat a tutor's presence on this platform as a statement that we have verified their character. We have verified their identity. Form your own view of the person, and stay in the room.
4.2 We do not interview tutors or observe them teach
Approval is based on a written application read by a person, plus identity verification through Stripe and human review of profile photographs and videos. There is no interview, no call and no teaching demonstration.
4.3 We do not take references
We do not collect or contact references.
4.4 We do not monitor lessons
Nobody from our team joins, watches or listens to lessons, and no recording exists to review afterwards. The supervising adult is the monitor. That is the deliberate design: the person watching is the person with the strongest interest in that child's welfare, present in the room, in real time.
4.5 What we do verify
Identity, properly. Every tutor is verified by Stripe, which collects and checks government identification and bank details directly. A tutor cannot be listed until Stripe confirms verification. This is a hard technical gate, not a promise, and it means every tutor on this platform is a real, identified person whose bank account is known. Every application, by a person. No profile goes live automatically. Every photograph and introduction video, by a person, before families see them. Any qualification a tutor claims. The certificate must be uploaded and checked against the profile name. Certificates are optional and most tutors will hold none, which is normal for native speakers. Declarations. Every tutor confirms they are not barred from working with children anywhere, have no relevant conviction or pending proceeding, and are subject to no order restricting contact with children. We rely on their honesty, and a false declaration is a breach of contract and may be a criminal offence.
5. How to Report a Concern
Email main@myfamilylearnscroatian.com. Put SAFEGUARDING in the subject line. Tell us who was involved, when, and what happened, as best you can. You do not need to be certain, and you do not need proof. A concern is enough. If you are not sure whether something matters, report it and let us decide. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Then tell us.
5.1 There is no deadline
Our ordinary 3-day window for reporting a problem with a lesson does not apply to safeguarding concerns. Report a safeguarding concern whenever you become aware of it, however long after the lesson. Children often disclose long after the event, and a policy that closed the door after three days would be worthless for exactly the cases it most needs to catch.
5.2 Anyone can report
Parents, learners, tutors and anyone else. Tutors are required to report concerns and are protected for doing so.
6. What Happens When a Concern Is Raised
Immediately. The tutor's profile is suspended and all their upcoming bookings are cancelled and refunded. This is a precaution, not a finding. The same day. We acknowledge your report and tell you who is handling it. Within 24 hours. We assess whether the child is at immediate risk and whether the matter must be referred to an authority. Referral. Where there is reason to believe a child has been harmed or is at risk, we report to law enforcement or the relevant child protection authority, both in the country where the child is and in the country where the tutor is. Investigation. We gather the information available and give the tutor a fair opportunity to respond. A person decides, never an automated system. Outcome. We tell you the outcome. The tutor is either reinstated or permanently removed. Where a tutor is permanently removed for a safeguarding reason, they are not permitted to return under any name, and we retain a record of the decision. Payments to a tutor under investigation are held while the matter is open.
6.1 Fairness to tutors
Suspension pending investigation is not a conclusion that a tutor has done anything wrong. Tutors are told what has been alleged in enough detail to respond, given a fair opportunity to respond, given a decision within a reasonable time with reasons, and may ask for review by someone not previously involved. We suspend first because a child's safety outweighs the inconvenience of a suspension that turns out to be unnecessary, and we say so openly to tutors before they join.
7. Reporting to Authorities
Where we have reason to believe a child has been harmed or is at risk of harm, we will report to the appropriate authority. We will do this without the tutor's consent and without notifying them in advance where notification might place a child at risk or prejudice an investigation. We will cooperate fully with any law enforcement or child protection investigation and will preserve relevant records. Nothing in any agreement we have with a tutor or a family, including any confidentiality obligation or arbitration provision, prevents anyone from reporting a concern to the authorities.
8. Guidance for Parents
The supervising adult requirement only works if it is taken seriously. A few practical points: Stay in the room for the whole lesson. Not the next room. Not within earshot. In the room, able to see and hear. Do not relax it as trust builds. The lessons where it matters most are the ones where everyone has become comfortable. Familiarity is the condition under which most harm to children occurs, not strangeness. Never accept a request to move off-platform. However convenient, however friendly the reason. Tell us instead. Talk to your child afterwards. Ask what they learned and how it went. Make it normal to talk about lessons, so that if something ever feels wrong it is easy for them to say so. Tell your child that no adult should ever ask them to keep a secret from you. Then make sure they know they will not be in trouble for telling you anything. Trust your own instinct. If something feels off, report it. You will not be wasting our time, and we would far rather look into ten concerns that come to nothing than miss one that did not.
9. Guidance for Tutors
Confirm an adult is present at the start of every lesson with a learner under 18. Every lesson, every time If no adult is present, end the lesson and report it. You will be paid in full If a family asks to move off-platform or offers you their contact details, decline and tell us. You will not be penalised If a learner tells you something that worries you about their life outside the lesson, do not investigate it yourself and do not promise to keep it secret. Tell us the same day If you are unsure whether something crosses a line, it is close enough to the line to be worth reporting Reporting in good faith will never count against you, whatever the outcome.
10. Our Own Practices
Safeguarding reports are handled by a named person and, where a decision affects a tutor's listing, reviewed by a second We keep an append-only record of every safeguarding decision, including who made it and when Safeguarding reports and decisions are retained for 7 years, given they may concern a child Access to safeguarding records is restricted to those who need it We review this policy at least annually, and after any incident
11. Limits of This Policy
No policy makes a platform risk-free, and a policy that claims otherwise should not be believed. What we can tell you honestly is this. Every tutor here is an identified person. No tutor can be alone with your child if you follow the supervising adult requirement. No lesson happens outside a room we control. No tutor holds your contact details or your child's. Any concern suspends a tutor immediately, with no deadline for raising it, and goes to the authorities where there is reason to believe a child has been harmed. The single most important protection is the one held by you, and it costs nothing: stay in the room.
